Quarterly Meeting Information Oregon Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society

WHEN: February 11, 2012. Doors open at 10:00 A.M. for socializing. (1 and 1/4 hours before start of general meeting.)

Meeting starts at 11:15 A.M. and ends at 2 PM. Lunch is served around Noon.

Meeting Dates in 2012 are February 11, May 12, August 11, and November 3.

The building is at the end of 104th Avenue. Turn onto 104th where the Avis / Budget Car Rental is at and drive past the fence into the Elks Lodge parking lot. Park in the back parking lot and enter directly into the meeting room. (See map below.)

PROGRAM: Jack Cramer was the navigator on the "Goin Jessie", a B29 in the 5th Sq, 9th Bomb Group, 313th Wing, 20th AF flying out of North Field, Tinian, in the Marianas. He flew 35 combat missions with one of them to Iwo Jima and one to Truk and the other 33 missions were to the home islands of Japan. In his talk he plans to describe some of his experiences and how the missions he flew were the same in some ways and different in others than the missions of the 8th Air Force flew over Germany.

LUNCH: The meal will be a sandwich meal. The price will be around $13.00 which includes gratuity. The cost of the meal also covers the room rental fee so that we can use the building for the meeting.

!Note! Call Tom Philo at 503-591-3227 ONLY if you are planning to EAT at the meeting - by February8 - so he can get a headcount for the lodge food chefs.

Meetings Are Free

Meetings are open to everyone. You do NOT have to be a member to attend meetings.

Past meetings are transcribed and posted on the 8thafhsoregon.com web site. Most meetings are also taped and are available on DVD.

Joining

This non-profit organization is for anyone who has an interest in the 8th Air Force in its roll in defeating Germany during World War II. The meeting is valuable to anyone interested in the history of WWII European Air Combat.

There are currently 80 members who flew combat in the 8th AF (and another 20 who flew in other theatres and / or wars.)

To join the Oregon Chapter fill out the form at the meeting and present it to the treasurer. The annual dues is $10. In addition, you can join the national organization whose dues are $25 a year. The national chapter puts out a quarterly magazine while the Oregon chapter puts out a quarterly newsletter plus a monthly chapter news update.

		Turn North at 104th Avenue and drive to the building at the end of the road. Drive left around the building to the back parking lot and park, then enter the Elks Lodge. Meeting room is to the left as you enter.
