Quarterly Meeting Information Oregon Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society

WHEN: May 10, 2008. Doors open at 10:00 A.M. for socializing. (1 and 1/4 hours before start of general meeting.).

Meeting starts at 11:15 A.M. and ends at 2 PM. Lunch is served at Noon.

The building is at the end of 104th Avenue. Turn onto 104th where the Thrifty Car Rental is at and drive to the end of 104th Avenue past the fence to the Elks Lodge (see map below). 104th crosses Canyon Road (Highway 8) in Beaverton. Canyon Road can be accessed via Highway 217 or Highway 26.

Amy Strebe at the February Meeting 8th AFHS of Oregon

PROGRAM: The May meeting will be a panel discussion moderated by Amy Strebe who wrote a book called “Flying for Her Country.” The panel will consist of two WASPs - Women Airforce Service Pilots - Jan Goodrum and Isabelle Van Lam who flew bombers and fighters around the US during the war. Amy’s web site is: www.AmyGoodpasterStrebe.com .

The panel discussion was orignally set for the February meeting but both of the WASP were unable to attend so Amy gave her presentation about US and Russian women pilots of World War II at the February meeting.

You can purchase her book, autographed by her and the two WASPs, at the May meeting.

LUNCH MENU: $8.50 per plate, which includes gratuity. Meal will be a hot meal buffet line sit down dinner w/salad with coffee or tea. (Price may be higher.)

!Note! Call Tom Philo at 503-591-3227 ONLY if you are planning to EAT at the meeting - by May 08, 2008 so he can get a headcount for the lodge food preparers.

Meetings Are Free

Meetings are open to everyone. You do NOT have to be a member to attend meetings.

Past meetings are transcribed and posted on the 8thafhsoregon.com web site. Most meetings are also taped and are available on DVD.

Joining

This non-profit organization is for anyone who has an interest in the 8th Air Force in its roll in defeating Germany during World War II. The meeting is valuable to anyone interested in the history of WWII European Air Combat.

There are currently 85 members who flew combat in the 8th AF (and another 20 who flew in other theatres and / or wars.)

To join the Oregon Chapter fill out the form at the meeting and present it to the treasurer. The annual dues is $10. In addition, you have to join the national organization whose dues are $25 a year. The national chapter puts out a quarterly magazine while the Oregon chapter puts out a quarterly newsletter.

Hwy 217 Canyon rd and 104th Turn North at 104th Avenue and drive to the building at the end of the road. Drive left around the building to the back parking lot and park, then enter the Elks Lodge. Meeting room is to the left as you enter.
