Weddings

A wedding is a fun event for all. Part of the fun is getting photos
that you normally do not think about getting. This is where synergy
from the photographer and the couple comes into play. Here I posed
Rivka at the fountain at the Portland Latter Day Saints temple in
Lake Oswego.

Every wedding event is different so therefore I employ an hourly fee.

Hourly Rate

The hourly rate I charge for weddings like those that take place at the LDS Temple in Portland (left), the Pioneer Church in Sellwood, Marshall House on Fort Vancouver works for all wedding ceremonies lasting from 2 to 14 hours or more. The assignment hourly rate is flexible and affordable to allow you to enjoy the wedding and not worry about the clock ticking while at your wedding.

Number of Images Taken for a Wedding

The number of film rolls taken will vary from 3 to 12 of 35 mm negative film. However, unlike many other wedding photographers, after the film is processed and the 4x6 inch prints are back I give you the negatives and the prints.

Booking

It is best to contact me 3 to 6 months in advance of your wedding in order to ensure that I am available. For short term needs, since I book only two weddings a month, I may be available if there are no conflicts in my schedule. There are many wedding photographers who book multiple weddings on a weekend — I do not. This allows me to concentrate on the photography and not watch the clock by having to be leave for another client.

Likewise, I also keep the number of assignments / portraits that I accept to no more than five a month, and most of these take place during the week and not on a Saturday when most ceremonies occur.

To reserve me for your wedding you can call, send an e-mail, or write a letter. See the wedding section for complete details.

"The most important thing is not clicking the shutter, it is clicking with the subject."

I cover assignment / wedding needs from Salem in the South, in the Portland and Vancouver Washington Metro Area, north to Longview, the Northern Oregon Coast to the West and to Mount Hood to the East. This encompasses all the towns like Gresham, Troutdale, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Tualatin, Tigard, Roy, St Helens, McMinnville, Wilsonville, Mololla, Canby, Aurora, Sandy, Woodland, Camas, Battle Ground, Washougal, and many other towns within this region. Other more distant locations can be accommodated.

Portraits

The way I do portraits is also different than most other photographers. I will travel to your home (or other location) in the local Portland area with my camera gear, once there set up and shoot a role of 36 exposure film.

I charge $95.00 for this service. This includes, 4x6 prints, and having the images placed on a CD. You also get to keep the negatives.

Use of this service is limited to situations like a portrait of your immediate family, a couple, a graduation picture, professional portrait. There is no set time limit for this type of portrait work but it usually takes an hour.

Family reunions and other functions fall under my assignment rules and rates.

More details are in the portraits section.

Assignment Work

I covered the Reno National Air Races as an assignment photographer for AVWeb.com during 2000, 2001, and 2002 (AVWeb was bought out by another company so that assignment stopped). While on assignment I uploaded to AVWEB daily the images that I had taken during the day.

All images that I take go into my online photo database. Any photograph that I have can be individually purchased in sizes from 5x7 to 20x30 poster prints or rights can be purchased to use in publications.

I do own a digital camera, a Nikon E5700, so that is an option for quick turnaround assignments where having the image on film is not required.

Stock Photographs Collection

I have an extensive collection of around 45,000 negatives and slides of scenes from Alaska to Europe. Of the images that I have more than 5,000 are of England, Wales, France, Belgium and Germany. My photographs cover a wide range of subject material. Aviation, flowers, castles, churches, doors, villages, pub food, scenics, windmills and other diverse subjects. I have a sample page showing a large variety of photographs that I have taken.

I try and carry my camera with me all the time. I went to Washington DC one time and on the flight from Chicago was the Jesse Jackson walking through Ronald Reagan National Airport in June 2001 Reverend Jesse Jackson. I was the only person who had a camera out and used it when he deplaned at National Airport.

You can search for various images and see thumbnails of them using the online photo database feature.

On a recent flight back from Dallas Texas as we approached PDX I got this images of Houseboats along the shoreline of the Columbia River in OregonHouseboats on the Columbia River . Images like this can be used for stock photography needs.

For detailed description of how I work, checklists and more detailed information of the services that I provide go to the services section on the site.

A generalist is a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none, whereas a generalizing specialist is a jack-of-all-trades and master of a few. Big difference.

Where I Work From

I do not have a studio or brick and mortar location. (I do have the ability to create a mini portrait area on location using my backdrops.) My postal mailing address ZIP code is owned by the Portland Post Office which means I get placed into directories under a Portland Oregon wedding photographer category even though I live in Washington County just two blocks from the Beaverton city limits.

The Person Behind the Pages

There is a lot more to me than photography. I have a whole lot of pages in my personal area of topics that interest me. Reno National Air Races 2006 pictures, Portland Traffic Patterns (what are the "usual traffic slowdowns"?), historical interests, hobby interests information like in my Remote Control (R/C) plane flying area and so on.
