AT-6s at the start of a qualifing round.
From a line abreast formation with
the pace plane on the inside the AT 6 race class dives onto the course. The
Unlimited, Sport Class, and L-39 class all do air starts like the AT-6 class.
The bi-planes and Formula 1 class do a "race horse" start from the
runway.

poses no problems when flying.

The "Fly Low"
part of the motto "Fly Low, Fly Fast and Turn Left" can be seen in
this view. No aircraft is allowed to fly lower than 50 feet above the ground
at the races.
Race number 45 "Risky Business"
as he sets up for a turn. This Mustang's
cockpit has not been highly modified like some other P-51s that race at Reno
so the pilot's view is very good.
